In travel mode

As the mobile market continues to grow, so does the demand for transportation services. Taxi companies in particular are undergoing significant changes as a result of rising demand for nimble and exciting customer experiences. However, though the field of mobile transportation services has developed greatly over the past few years, very little has happened in terms of the user experience during the period of time when the user is actually en route to their destination.

The first issue you have to tackle in order to implement this type of “in travel” mode is to accurately determine the point at which a user has entered a specific vehicle. If we can identify that a user has started a session of transportation, then we could offer them more ride-specific features with the experience. If a user enters a vehicle without pre-ordering it, for instance, we could still allow them to pay using the app by simply answering “Yes” to a notification.

Another challenge we face is the occurrence of false positives - situations where the app mistakenly thinks the customer is inside a vehicle, causing it to activate its “in travel” mode at the wrong moment. A possible counter-strategy to this might entail using the phone’s hardware sensors in order to analyze the user’s movement patterns in relation to the vehicle in question.
